Why the Future of Leadership Can't Wait

Updated: Sep 19

I'm pretty excited, because today we are launching our brand new Special Report on 'The Future of Leadership in the Age of AI'.

Now, I want to be really clear, I'm not moonlighting as an (overnight) AI expert. Despite the name, this is not about the tech.

I HAVE however written this as a Leadership Expert, and my it IS about my area of expertise; Leadership. Specifically the people part of business when it comes to leading alongside and with AI.

I have been sharing this over the last month at our Leadership Networking Breakfast, and the response has been incredible. I'd love to share the hot-off-the-press special report, and you can read more about it below.

TLDR: download your copy of the report here.

You might be wondering why, and why now, read on...

We’re living through a leadership moment unlike any we’ve seen before.

The workplace is being reshaped before our very eyes, by AI, hybrid work, burnout, generational change, and rising expectations around ethics and wellbeing. And while all of that might sound overwhelming.

Here’s the truth: this isn’t a crisis, it’s a call.

The old playbook of authority, control, and “just work harder” is crumbling. And yet, many leaders I speak to are still running themselves (and their teams) into the ground with busyness without progress.

They’re firefighting, not leading. Treading water instead of moving forward.

So, why does this matter now?

Because the cost of doing nothing is too high.

Globally, only 21% of employees are engaged at work, costing the economy an estimated US$438 billion in lost productivity each year (Gallup).

Here in Australia, nearly half of employees are reporting burnout symptoms, with psychological injury claims costing more than triple that of physical injuries (Safe Work Australia).

At the same time, AI adoption is skyrocketing, with 76% of organisations globally already embedding AI into their systems (IDC). That means the leaders who embrace adaptability, empathy, and AI literacy will thrive, while those who cling to outdated practices will get left behind.

Here’s the good news:

The skills that matter most for the future aren’t about knowing how to code or becoming a tech wizard. They’re about being courageous enough to lead differently.

To create clarity when everything feels uncertain.

To prioritise adaptability over rigidity.

To put humanity at the centre of technology.

To take Radical Accountability, for your decisions, your culture, and your impact.

Leadership in the age of AI won’t be about controlling the machine. It’ll be about choosing to stay present, empathetic, and human while the world accelerates around us.

That’s what this new white paper is about: The future of work will be defined not by technology alone, but by the courage of leaders to balance progress with humanity.

Over the coming weeks, I’ll be unpacking the biggest forces shaping leadership, from the hidden crisis of busyness, to the rise of AI, to the metrics that really matter. Each section will give you practical insights you can apply immediately with your teams and clients.

Here’s my challenge for you today:

  • Take a look at your own calendar. How much of it is filled with firefighting versus meaningful leadership?

  • Where are you reacting instead of anticipating?

  • And what small shift could you make this week to create more clarity, connection, or courage for your team?

Because the future of leadership isn’t five years away, it’s here now.

The leaders who respond with courage will be the ones shaping it.
